Heroism For Our Times:
Free Iran's Political Prisoners Now.  An Afternoon of Solidarity & Resistance

October 3, 2021

On September 25,  a moving and informative “Afternoon of Solidarity and Resistance – Heroism for Our Times: Free Iran’s Political Prisoners Now” took place at Revolution Books in New York, and was was live-streamed worldwide.  It was co-sponsored by Revolution Books and the International Emergency Campaign to Free Iran’s Political Prisoners (IEC).

The program included speeches from Mariam Claren, the daughter of Iranian political prisoner Nahid Taghavi; Kave Milani of the Burn the Cage campaign; Raymond Lotta of Revolution Books; Anahita– a former Iranian political prisoner; and Larry Everest, a contributor to revcom.us and member of the IEC. A deeply felt solidarity message was sent by Mansoureh Behkish of the Mothers of Khavaran (fighting for remembrance and justice for political prisoners murdered by the Iranian regime); Ariel Dorfman, the internationally acclaimed author and playwright, offered a powerful audio message and reading from his new novel; and the revolutionary internationalist rock band Outernational performed live at the program.

The entire program made a real contribution to broadening and pushing forward the International Emergency Campaign to Free Iran’s Political Prisoners.  A former Iranian political prisoner in the Middle East who watched the program wrote a letter that speaks movingly to the impact of this program—a reading of this letter is featured on episode 72 of The RNL Show.

The full video also includes a YouTube performance by dissident rapper Toomaj Salehi; a reading by Iranian-American poet Darius Atefat-Peckham; and a video statement from Dr. Azam Niroomand-Rad, coordinator of Madison, Wisconsin  Amnesty International. We encourage everyone to watch and widely share the videos of the September 25 program!
